Frisco Area Children’s Theater

Class and Workshop Descriptions
We teach a wide variety of acting classes for children 4 and up!
Acting teaches: Confidence. Creativity. Self-esteem and self-expression. Classes at The Frisco Area Children’s Theater of Frisco encourage young people to explore their world in new and exciting ways, fueled by their imaginations and guided by our trained, professional teachers. Our goal is to instill theatre arts skills while honoring the creativity and imagination of each young person. Whatever your child's age, experience, or needs, Children's Theater offers a program to help them set their imagination free!

Parents are welcome to stay and observe any class their children are enrolled in.


”I’m A Star!” (ages 4 to 6)
In this class you will enjoy becoming a star! Use your imagination to express yourself and become your favorite story book characters, animals, super heroes and clowns. Have fun and learn how to express yourself creatively while being different characters and acting out different scenes. We provide hats, costumes and props that are used in class.

Pre-requisites: None.

What’s the Story? (ages 4 to 6)
Every week a new story comes to life with YOU the star!! Using popular stories from classic and current Children’s Literature, and movies, students will explore stories through dramatization, movement and sensory discovery. You can have fun while acting as characters from your favorite stories! We provide hats, costumes and props that are used in class.

Pre-requisites: None.

Extreme Comedy (ages 9 and up)
Do you want to make people laugh? We teach you the art of comedic timing and how to be funny in the style of the greatest comedic actors of all time. You'll learn the art of physical, slapstick comedy, including how to take a pratfall safely, how to frame a joke and deliver the punchline for a guaranteed laugh! You'll learn a classic comic routine that you will perform with other actors at the end of the session for family and friends.

Pre-requisites: None.

Acting I (ages 7 and up)
Do you want to be an actor? You will learn what every actor should know! Topics covered in class include: Auditioning, Reading a script, Building a "real" character, Voice control, Stage movement. Learn the basics and become comfortable onstage. You can be a star! You will be given fun things to do at home to prepare you for each week’s class. At the end of the session you will get to perform onstage for family and friends.

Pre-requisites: Must read

Acting II (ages 7 and up)
This class gives you even more advanced training in the art of acting as you perform a play picked out especially for your class. Learn more about character development and how to polish your skills and shine onstage. The class will be given a play and students will learn to work as a team as they work to perform the play onstage for family and friends at the end of the session.

Pre-requisites: Acting I or equal experience.


Acting III (ages 9 and up)
This class gives you even more advanced training in the art of acting as well as play-writing and character and plot development. In this fast paced class you will use your creative skills to write a play and develop characters as well as act in it. You will be given fun homework to work on to bring to each class as you write the play as a group. This class also helps to further develop skills to work as a team. At the end of the session you will perform your play for family and friends.

Pre-requisites: Acting I and II or equal experience.

It's My Line! Comedy Improv. (Ages 13 to 18)
Join us for improv FUN. Theater games designed to increase Acting Skills, Teamwork, Quick Wit and Spontaneity.

Pre-requisites: Acting I and II or equal experience.



HOME SCHOOL DRAMA
(8 week class) Be a part of the fun. Different acting subjects offered through out the year. Check current schedule.
Acting IV -- MELODRAMA (ages 9 and up)
Are you the Hero, Heroine, Villain, or Clown? This fun, creative, class teaches the history and art of performing a Melodrama. Learn the different Melodramatic expressions and how to use them as you use new skills as well as the skills learned in the previous classes to create the perfect Melodrama. The class ends in a performance of the play for family and friends.

Pre-requisites: Acting I or equal experience.

*Acting Shakespeare
This class is designed to make the Bard practical, accessible, and fun for young actors! This class focuses on effective voice delivery, breathing, phrasing, rhythm, text analysis, and character interpretation through modern experience. Students will participate in a variety of acting exercises from Shakespeare’s plays. At the end of the session, students will perform their Shakespearian scenes.

Frisco Area Children's Theater
Our full production plays are performed through out the year. Audition and star in a children’s play. No Acting experience needed but you must be available for rehearsals and that schedule is up to the director.

Pre-requisites: Must audition for the director and be cast in a part.

*Please note there is no cost but you may be required to buy a costume if there is none available to borrow from the theatre.
